Mike Bickle, IHOP and Contemplative Prayer
Did you know that…
Much of the literature being sold through the International House of Prayer’s online FORERUNNER Bookstore indicates a contemplative influence. One such book being offered is Fire Within, written by Father Thomas Dubay. IHOP founder Mike Bickle states, “I want this book to be the manual for IHOP-KC.” [1]
That is high praise indeed from Mike Bickle. The full title of the book is Fire Within: St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, and the Gospel–On Prayer. Even so, wolves in sheeps clothing are often difficult to spot. In his Preaching Moment 175, can you tell which Jesus Christ McLaren is encouraging people to follow after? Is he talking about the Jesus Christ of the Bible, or Anti-Christ? Can a disciple of Christ have fellowship and partnership with those who follow Lucifer? McLaren does.
The Bible says:
“You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.” 1 Corinthians 10:21
Sheep, who will you follow?
“I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.” Acts 20:29,30
Faith Healers and Dealers
About those televangelists, faith healers, and dealers who are wolves in sheeps clothing…
Sometime ago this question appeared in a local newspaper. It read: “Why don’t televangelists go to hospitals and cure people instead of just a few on TV?”[1] Good question. To validate their message as being from God, Jesus, Peter and the other apostles healed unbelievers wherever they encountered them. Maybe today’s so-called healers don’t heal in public places like hospitals because contrary to their claims, they really can’t heal. Their ministry is more for show than for go.
Why are unbelievers not amazed by the miracles that faith healers pretend to do? As in Acts 3:1-11, why are people not “wondering” after the sick and lame who are healed? Perhaps it’s because there’s really nothing happening to wonder about.

“Jason Hooper, a neo-charismatic evangelist touring with a Hillsong guy in Australia, got off scott-free when he appeared before a judge. The maximum sentence 18 months in jail and a maximum fine of $3300. Hooper lost the right to drive in Australia for three years. New The sentence was described as a joke. The judge let Hooper off saying Hooper, recently part of Rick Joyners Morningstar Ministries was a “person of good character” under a lot of ‘ministerial pressure.”

‘You Can Do Miracles’ and other Myths
At Solution Ministries, Ron and Marilyn Marquardt want you to know that…
God wants you to live your dreams. He desires that your desires are fulfilled…He desires you to enter into rest and an effortless lifestyle of success.
Fulfilled desires? An effortless lifestyle of success? Really? Where does God say that in the Bible?
“If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.” John 15:18,19
“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
“Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” James 1:2,3
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires” 2 Timothy 4:3
When they do evangelism training, rather than sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Marquardts teach their trainees to just share the ‘love of God’. They seem to have missed the fact that if people don’t hear the bad news (the wages of sin is death), they won’t know their need for the good news (that Jesus paid their wages).
They also teach their trainees that they can do miracles. Their ad, which can also be seen on the Elijah List, says: You Can Do Miracles: Free Classes at Spirit Training Seminars.
The truth is, you can’t do miracles. Only God can. Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 [bold mine]
‘See now that I, I am He,
And there is no god besides Me;
It is I who put to death and give life.
I have wounded and it is I who heal,
And there is no one who can deliver from My hand.
Deuteronomy 32:39
We must be discerning sheep, and learn to measure everything with Scripture. Even ‘nice’ wolves are still…wolves. Can you spot the wolves in sheeps clothing? If not, study your Bible and ask God to grant you discernment.
