Ecstatic Sheep?

Have you read this book called Ecstatic Prophecy by Stacey Campbell?

This book’s foreword is written by Bill Johnson and it is endorsed by various voices of the false prophetic movement such as James Goll, and Heidi Baker of the recent strange fish prophecy. . .

On page 29 of Ecstatic Prophecy (which you can find here), Campbell writes that Ecstatic prophecy, to quote David Aune (professor of theology at Loyola University of Chicago), is a form of possession trance. The physical possession, she writes, is as real as the spiritual possession, sometimes occurring against or above the prophet’s will. She then goes on to say that Christian mystics through the ages have experienced such visible ecstasy as hers, in the form of drunkenness, jerks, transports and violent shaking.

But the Bible teaches that the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets (1 Cor. 14:32). This means that a Christian is not so overwhelmed by prophecy that they writhe and jerk as in demon possession. When the Spirit of God moves upon us, we are still in control of how to exercise our spiritual gift. We surrender to the prompting and power of the Holy Spirit in obedience. He does not control us and embarrass us, like a demon would, but guides and directs us in a manner that always glorifies Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit will not overtake and make his children shake and give crazy prophecies that don’t come true, for which we must later apologize.

Shame on the wolves in sheep’s clothing who teach the sheep falsehoods about the gifts from the Good Shepherd who loves them. The Father gives good and perfect gifts to his children, not destructive ‘gifts’ of drunkenness, jerking, and violent shaking. The Bible tells us so, as in Luke 11:13, Matthew 7:11, and James 1:17. Dear sheep, please read the Bible to discern His gifts, not books written and endorsed by false prophets.
